Films Based on True American Hauntings
Many supernatural films claim to be based on true events or legends. The following films have their basis in actual happenings and allegedly true paranormal events.
The following films, which all take place somewhere in the United States, are based on events that have their roots in a true story or legend. Some, such as the Bell Witch and the Mothman, have been heavily documented.
A Haunting in Connecticut
In the film, A Haunting in Connecticut, the Campbell family move to be near a doctor who can treat their very ill son. They soon discover their new home was once a mortuary, and is haunted by an evil presence. The movie is based on a real story about the Parker family, who actually did move to Connecticut so their son Paul could have medical treatment. In the basement they found embalming equipment and other clues that their house had once been a mortuary. After hearing voices and glimpsing ghostly figures, their son became possessed. An exorcism was performed to free the house of evil spirits. An American Haunting
In the movie, John Bell and his family are threatened by an invisible spirit which targets his daughter ,Betsy. The film is based on the legend of the Bell Witch, which originated in Tennessee in the 1800s. The legend goes that a witch haunted and tormented the Bell family, causing strange noises and assaulting Betsy. The witch also threatened John Bell, who was found dead by poison, a vial of liquid beside him. It was believed he had been poisoned by the evil spirit, and the U.S. government even went so far as to acknowledge for the first and only time that a supernatural death had occurred. The movie is a take on this true story. The Amityville Horror 1979 and 2005 Remake
When the Lutz family moved into a large, old house on 112 Ocean Avenue, in Amityville, a suburb of New York, they thought it was a real bargain. But before 28 days had passed, they were packing their bags, frightened away by a series of paranormal events. The murders were a true event. A little over a year earlier, the house had been the site of a mass murder. Ron Defeo, the eldest son, shot down six family members in the house for unknown reasons. The possession part of the movie, based on a book about the Lutz’s experiences, is believed by some and others regard it as a hoax. Certainly, the sequels to the Amityville Horror are all made up stories.http://vickie-britton.suite101.com/films-based-on-true-american-hauntings-a136782
Demonic Possession: Films Based on True Cases
we found this on the internet giving an idea to the reality of possession films.
There are three films are based on true cases where priests or paranormal investigators were called in to help rid the sufferer of an evil spirit or demon.
There are three films are based on true cases where priests or paranormal investigators were called in to help rid the sufferer of an evil spirit or demon.
Some films about exorcism are based on documented cases that are similar to the one portrayed in the movie. Three such examples are The Exorcist, The Entity, and The Exorcism of Emily Rose.
The Exorcist
One of the most popular made films about spirit possession is The Exorcist. In this 1973 film based on a novel by William Peter Blatty, where a 12 year old girl, becomes possessed. Regan, played by Linda Blair, begins to display extreme and hostile behavior. Strange noises and unexplained events such as the violent shaking of her bed occur. Two priests are contacted to perform an exorcism. During the exorcism the older priest, Father Merrin, dies of a heart attack. Father Karras provokes the demon to leave Regan and enter his body, then jumps from the window, thus saving the young girl. The story was inspired by a documented exorcism that was performed on a 14 year old boy named Douglas Deen in a rural area near Washington D.C. Unexplained phenomena came from his room such as strange noises, moving furniture, and the bed shaking. A Roman Catholic priest was called in, and an exorcism performed. The events were not as extreme as the ones portrayed in the movie. After a period of two months the strange occurrences stopped.
The Entity
In this 1981 horror movie, a single mother, Carla Moran, is tormented by an invisible being who repeatedly abuses and rapes her. The psychiatrist believes she has emotional problems and is imagining the violent attacks. Finally, she gets two paranormal scientists to investigate, who attempt to trap the entity. At first it appears they have succeeded, but when Carla returns home the ghost is there, waiting. She is eventually driven from the house. Though she is still plagued by paranormal occurrences, they decrease in intensity after she moves. In 1974 two paranormal researchers, Kerry Gaynor and Barry Taff investigated a case involving a California woman, Carlotta Moran, who claimed to have been attacked both physically and sexually by an unknown entity. The investigators went to her house, where they witnessed poltergeist activity, floating lights and other strange phenomena. The attacks grew less frequent when the woman moved from the house, but she still claims to experience unusual happenings.
The Exorcism of Emily Rose
The Exorcism of Emily Rose is a courtroom drama that concerns the trial of Father Moore. In a series of flashbacks, the film depicts the events leading up to Emily Rose’s death. Experts discuss Emily’s symptoms which could have been a result of epilepsy and psychosis. But Emily’s family, who believed she was possessed by demons, ask for an exorcism. Father Moore performs an exorcism, in which demons appeared to speak through the girl. After this, Emily stops taking her medication, refuses to eat, and dies a short time later. Father Moore is found guilty, but receives a light sentence for his part in the exorcism, which might have indirectly lead to the girl’s death from lack of medical attention. It is stated in the film’s credits that the story was based on the true account of Anneliese Michel. And the film does follow closely the documented story. Anneliese was born in 1952 in Klingenberg, Germany. In 1968 she started suffering attacks that appeared to epileptic seizures, and began seeing hallucinations. Starting in 1975, a series of exorcisms were performed, but Anneliese seemed to worsen, and refused to eat. Her parents and the two exorcists were charged with negligent homicide for not getting her proper medical attention.

What is horror?
A horror film is something that is created to scare people, they have different purposes, they are able to deliver thrills as well as telling stories about the dark side of life, regularly relating to death.
The codes and conventions of horror are many of the obvious thoughts, for example: blood, death, murder, evil, ghosts, torture, violence, vampires, werewolves, gore, zombies, disease, demons.

As the decades go on, horror films change. In the early 1940s, during Hitler’s power, many beasts appeared part wolf, part man which was known as the ‘boogeyman’.

Stockholm Syndrome
When initially looking into kidnap in a broad sense, we came across the shocking theory of ‘Stockholm Syndrome’. Allegedly coined by Swedish psychiatrist Nils Bejerot, who assisted the police in the Swedish Bank robbery of 1973. As shocking as it was, it was clear that some of the hostages, who were held at gunpoint for 6 days, showed compassion and in some cases even loyalty towards their captors. Incidentally they made the world stand up and take note when they were released as they hugged and kissed the bank robbers before they were transported to jail.
Although many claim that ‘Stockholm Syndrome’ is merely a case of the media’s overactive imagination, there is no widely accepted diagnosis for identifying this mental state, which has also been witnessed in several different cases in recent years.
One of the most notable examples is that of Jaycee Lee Dugard who was abducted at the age of 11, regularly being raped and was held captive by Phillip and Nancy Garrido for 18 years. However upon return she regrettably stated how she had formed an emotional bond with Mr Garrido.
Although most victims go on to recover from Stockholm Syndrome, there are some who do not and we thought this was a possible way to describe Harvey’s behaviour in our film.

The Missing - UKs Lost Children - News Story
Every year more than 100,000 children go missing in the UK - that is one child who disappears every five minutes.
Charity Missing People is working to find these children who disappeared in the UK
Parents And Children Together (PACT) came up with this figure but the charity Missing People has released a new report suggesting the number could be even higher, at around 150,000.
While the majority are found, some remain missing.
Andrew Gosden, 14, is one of the few who have not been found.
Without warning, he left home in Doncaster on September 14, 2007.
He had £200 of his savings. Later that day he was captured on CCTV at King's Cross station in London but he has not been seen since.
His parents Kevin and Glenys have been to London countless times looking for him.
"I think there's a fair chance that he might not be alive or he's being held against his will," says Glenys.
"You have hope in one hand and grief in the other but every day brings hope that it might be the day that he'll phone or make some contact."
Kevin has found it so difficult to cope with his son's disappearance that he attempted to commit suicide.
"When Andrew went missing, it's that feeling when your children are small, that absolute panic that 'Oh, where have they gone?'
"It's that panic going on and on, day after day, week after week, month after month."
According to Missing People, young people aged under 18 account for two-thirds of all police missing persons reports and 70% of youngsters reported missing had chosen to disappear.
"Young people go missing for a number of reasons," says Geoff Newiss, director of policy and research at the charity.
"Many run away from home or care, from school, from peer groups. The reasons cross the whole spectrum from bullying to mental health problems to involvement in drugs and alcohol, the cross-section is wide."
In 2000, Nadia Belhaj, then aged 14, skipped school with a friend. Their day out turned into six weeks away.
Glenys and Kevin Gosden
They stole to survive and slept on the streets. Eventually they were recognised by a police officer and taken home.
"I didn't really have a reason, I just up and left," says the 22-year-old from Leigh-on-Sea.
"I didn't plan on staying away so long. I wasn't doing it to be spiteful, I didn't think how my parents were feeling - it was just about me for once."
Missing People is currently working to find around 300 children, a third of those have not been seen for more than a year.

The Abduction of Elizabeth Smart: Her Own Story - Inspiration
"I have a knife to your neck. Don't make a sound. Get out of bed and come with me, or I will kill you and your family."
Earlier in the day, Lois Smart, Elizabeth's mother, took the stand to recall how the family first met Mitchell. It was the fall of 2001, and Lois had gone school shopping with her six children at the downtown mall. "He was a clean-cut, well-kept man that was down on his luck and needed to get some help," Lois said. She asked him if he was looking for work before handing him $5 and her husband Ed's name and phone number. According to Lois, at the time of their meeting, he was not singing or preaching and never mentioned religion. Mitchell went to work at the Smarts' home, fixing a leaky roof and raking leaves for the family. It was during this time that Mitchell introduced himself to Lois as Immanuel. "[He] never mentioned that he was a prophet. He didn't seem like he was mentally ill," Lois said.
Lois then recounted the last night the Smarts spent with their daughter: the awards ceremony they attended for Elizabeth's eighth-grade graduation, the potatoes that Lois burnt while rushing to cook dinner and how she opened the window to the right of the kitchen sink to get rid of the smoke. The family, devout Mormons, attended the ceremony, returned home and gathered to pray at 9 p.m. before retiring to bed. In the early hours of June 5, 2002, Lois was awakened by her younger daughter Mary Katherine. "She came into our bedroom, and she had a baby blanket wrapped around her shoulders and her head. She reminded me of a scared rabbit," Lois explained. "She said, 'Elizabeth is gone.' "
The family checked the bedroom and family room and discovered that the screen of the kitchen window to the right of the sink had been cut in a U shape. Elizabeth was nowhere to be found. "My heart sank, and I yelled out to Ed to call 911 — she is gone!" said Lois.
On the stand, Mary Katherine focused on the night Elizabeth was taken. "I stayed in bed. I was scared. I couldn't do anything. I was just shocked, petrified. I didn't know what to do," Mary Katherine told the jury, "knowing someone had come into my bedroom and taken my sister." Elizabeth is expected to return to the stand Tuesday to finish her narrative and to be questioned by Mitchell's defense.

Elizabeth Smart said she heard the strange man's voice and felt something cold across her neck. On a witness stand in a Salt Lake City courtroom, she recounted his words with a calm composure belying her fright more than eight years ago. It was, she said, the early hours of June 5, 2002; she was a 14-year-old in red pajamas who was about to be taken from her bedroom — as her younger sister slept nearby — for what would be a nine-month-long nightmare as a captive of the man on trial, Brian David Mitchell. She was the third witness of the day, after her mother and sister had testified, detailing an abduction that horrified and fascinated the country. Her dramatic account was supposed to have occurred last week, but the proceedings had come to an abrupt halt last Thursday, Nov. 4, when the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals granted a temporary stay to consider the defense's request for a change of venue. The request was denied.
And so Elizabeth Smart is finally telling her story. The defendant, she said on Monday, instructed her to get her tennis shoes. He then led her out of her parents' house in the affluent Federal Heights neighborhood of Salt Lake City, through an undeveloped back lot behind the residence, before shoving her behind a bush as a police car passed by. According to Elizabeth, the defendant said, "If this is the work of God, then let this police car pass without finding us." Then he told her that if she didn't stay down, she would be killed. The car passed, and for three to five hours, Elizabeth would continue her journey at knifepoint, walking up a trailhead until it merged into a dry stream bed. They then ascended a steep mountain to a camp.
Elizabeth told the jury that upon arriving at camp, she was greeted by Wanda Barzee, Mitchell's wife. She followed Barzee into the tent. The woman instructed her to remove her red pajamas. Elizabeth refused. "She said that if I didn't take them off, she would have the defendant come in and rip them off," said Elizabeth before telling the jury that she removed them as well as her underwear when she was threatened again. Barzee left as Elizabeth cried in the tent. Then the defendant entered and performed a marriage ceremony to which Elizabeth screamed, "No!" "He said if I ever screamed like that again, he would duct-tape my mouth." After the "marriage ceremony," Mitchell forced Elizabeth to the ground and began to rape her. "I tried to fight him off me," Elizabeth said. "A 14-year-old girl against a grown man doesn't even out so much."
When she awoke the next morning, a metal cable was fastened to her ankle. It was attached to another cable, part of a tether between two trees. "He said he was going to take away the temptation from running away from him," Elizabeth said. She then described how, during her time in captivity, she used a bucket as a bathroom and was raped almost daily even as she received frequent instruction that Mitchell was a prophet. She was forced to drink alcohol and smoke cigarettes and marijuana. "I felt like I had a burden the size of a mountain to carry around with me the rest of my life," Elizabeth said.
As she and her family testified, Mitchell viewed the proceedings from an adjacent room after once again being removed for disrupting the court by singing hymns. He has sung at every proceeding since the trial began and has been removed each time on orders of the presiding judge, Dale Kimball. According to the opening statement of Mitchell's defense lawyer, the defendant began using hymns around 1994 "to drown out his co-workers and not deal with others."
The defense is out to prove that Mitchell is not guilty by reason of insanity at the time of the abduction. "Very little or no disagreement exists as to what happened," said Mitchell's lawyer Parker Douglas. "We have general disagreement about why it happened." "To determine justice," he told the jury in his opening statement, "you must not only determine what happened but also why it happened." He focused almost entirely on Mitchell's life prior to the alleged abduction of Elizabeth Smart — his history of intense and erratic behavior, his descent into extremist fundamental religions and finally his belief that he was a prophet who needed "to restore the law of celestial marriage — plural marriage," Douglas told the jury.
Insanity is a difficult argument. After years of legal wrangling, Mitchell was declared competent to stand trial in March 2010. Barzee was put on trial after a Utah judge approved forcibly medicating her with antipsychotic drugs to restore her mental competence. She pleaded guilty to charges of kidnapping in November 2009 and is currently serving a 15-year sentence. About Demonic Possession: How Do People Become Possessed by Demons?
Demonic spirits are also referred to as evil spirits and are depicted in the bible as fallen angels. These are the angels who took side with Lucifer (Satan) in his rebellion against God. (Rev. 12:4)
Specialists in the area of demonology have categorized the state of demon possession into two groups: "Demonic oppression" and complete "Demonic possession."
A complete demonic possession on the other hand is a state in which one or several demonic spirits have gained access to the body of an individual and then proceeds to takes full control over the person's will. In such a condition, the demonic spirit/s uses the body of the individual to express its personality and to carry out its evil intent.
How do demons enter?
Demonic spirits gain access into the life of an individual through what is known as a door way. A door way is a vulnerable area in the life of a person that becomes open to the access of evil spirits whether through voluntary or involuntary means.
These doorways can stem from different level of involvement in the occult, traumatic occurrences, taking of drugs, generational curse, and different situation which triggers intense negative emotional reactions.
Involuntary entry point of demons
In instances where demons enter the life of an individual through involuntary means, are usually during those times when a person goes through a traumatic experience, which causes intense negative emotional reactions that are above normal. This can be an overwhelming response to an experience which causes one to be completely overcome by fear, deep depression, deep sorrow, very deep emotional pains and different negative emotions which are above normal.
Anger
Anger is also another emotion which demons tend to feed off, especially when a person decides to dwell on being angry by choosing to hold on to whatever is making them angry. This will open the door for demonic spirits to come in and influence them to do different deeds by further fueling their anger into rage.

Trailers
We have looked into the typical codes and conventions of a teaser trailer and a theatrical trailer, the main difference between the two is that a teaser trailer is most likely to be under 1 minute whereas a theatrical trailer can last between 2 and 3 minutes.
A teaser trailer, however, does what it says, teases the audience, drawing them in, in order to attract more people. A theatrical trailer gives more of a film away, advertising more to the audience, another approach to attracting the audience.
